What CANIS 1 is not.

Not a heating pad.
No heating element, nothing warm near a fresh incision.
Not a massage or vibration mat.
Nothing moves under him.
Not a magnet bed.
Static magnet beds contain fixed magnets. CANIS 1's field is driven by a controller, pulsed at a set frequency, adjustable and timed.
Not a medical treatment.
CANIS 1 isn't sold as a veterinary medical device and makes no promises about your dog's recovery. It's a home-use PEMF mat for comfort, rest and a daily routine, alongside your vet's plan.

PEMF isn't new or fringe. It's been used in human orthopedic devices since the late 1970s, and it's used in veterinary rehabilitation today. What's new is putting it into a mat that stays in his rest space for the whole window.

Five minutes to set up. Then it's part of the day.

Pick fixed times you're already beside him — after morning meds, before bed. Same spot, same times. The mat stays put, so there's nothing to set up or pack away between sessions.

  1. Unbox it.Inside: the CANIS 1 mat, the controller, the connecting cable and a quick-start guide.
  2. Lay the mat flat.Put it where he already rests and smooth it out. Don't fold it — the coils sit inside.
  3. Add his pad on top (optional). His usual thin, washable pad is fine. The field passes through fabric. Keep it thin: the closer he is to the mat, the stronger the field.
  4. Run the cable clear.Feed it away from his rest space so the controller sits where he can't reach or chew it. A cord protector adds a layer of safety.
  5. Plug in and press start.Standard US wall outlet. Choose the setting, press start, and the built-in timer switches the session off on its own.

Why CANIS 1.

Six reasons it earns its place during the confinement window.

  • Built for one window.

Every decision is designed around the weeks of confinement after surgery: a controller that sits outside his rest space, a timer so you're not watching the clock, and a trial long enough to use it in the real routine.

  • Full body, zero handling.

After surgery he's sore, coned and confined. Nothing to position or strap on. He lies down and it runs.

  • At home, every day of the window.

No car trips. No appointment schedule. It's there on day 1 and on day 84.

  • One price, nothing to re-buy.

No consumables, no subscription, no session count that runs out.

  • Straight with you.

We tell you exactly what the research covers and what it doesn't. We don't make promises about his recovery — that's your vet's job.

  • Zero risk to try.

How it works

PEMF delivers a low-level pulsed electromagnetic field through the mat surface. It's passive and non-invasive - your dog lies on it the way he'd lie on any mat. Sessions are timed from the controller. That's the whole routine.

What owners are saying

Real CANIS owners, mid-recovery.

The confinement window, mapped out

Most dogs spend 8 to 12 weeks in confinement after this kind of surgery. Nobody can tell you exactly what week 6 will feel like, but the shape of the window is predictable. Here's what that shape usually looks like.

Jump to a point in the window

A twelve-week marker representing the typical length of a dog's post-surgical confinement window. The markers represent time only — they do not represent a treatment outcome or a promised recovery result. Actual confinement length is set by your veterinarian.

Weeks 1 and 2

The strict part

This is the hardest stretch. Confinement is tightest, your dog is still adjusting, and you're probably re-reading the discharge papers more than once. The mat goes down now and stays there, same spot, same time of day if you can manage it. That's the whole routine, there's nothing else to get right.

Follow your vet's instructions for activity, medication and incision care. The routine sits around that plan.

Weeks 3 and 4

It gets boring

The adrenaline of the first two weeks fades, and what's left is mostly time. This is when owners tell us the routine matters most: you need something fixed to do each day that isn't just a countdown. The mat's already part of the day by now. Keep it that way.

Any change to activity level or medication still comes from your vet, not from the calendar.

Weeks 5 through 8

The long middle

Most of the confinement window lives here. Whatever your vet has told you about the pace of activity changes, this is usually when it happens. What doesn't change is the routine: the same daily rhythm, the same spot on the floor beside him.

Anything about activity, medication or the incision is your vet's call.

Weeks 9 through 12

Getting close

Most dogs are nearing the end of strict confinement somewhere in this range, though your vet's recheck is what actually decides that, not the calendar. Keep the routine going until they tell you otherwise. When confinement does end, a lot of owners tell us they miss having something fixed to do every day. That's a good problem to have.

Every question, answered straight.

The technology

What is PEMF?

PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. Copper coils carry an electrical current in short pulses, and each pulse creates a low-level magnetic field that switches on and off at a set rate. The field passes through fabric, fur and skin. There's no heat and nothing moves. PEMF has been used in human orthopedic devices since the late 1970s and is used in veterinary rehabilitation today.

How does CANIS 1 work?

Eight coils are spread from end to end inside the mat. An external controller pulses current through them on a timed session, creating a gentle magnetic field across the whole mat surface. Your dog lies on it like any mat. You press start, and the timer switches it off.

Is it a heating pad, a massage mat or a magnet bed?

None of those. There's no heating element and no vibration. And unlike a static magnet bed, where fixed magnets just sit inside the padding, CANIS 1's field is driven by a controller, pulsed at a set frequency, adjustable and timed.

Will my dog feel anything?

There's no heat and nothing moves, so there's nothing he'll feel as warmth or movement. He rests on it like any mat.

What frequency does CANIS 1 use?

Adjustable from 0.5 to 72 Hz. Hertz (Hz) means pulses per second, so 0.5 Hz is one pulse every two seconds and 72 Hz is 72 pulses per second.

How many coils are there, and where?

Eight copper coils, spread across the full length of the mat, so the field covers the whole surface rather than one spot.

How is CANIS 1 different from other PEMF devices, like loops or wraps?

Spot devices sit over one area and have to be positioned or strapped on for each session. CANIS 1 is a full mat with eight coils end to end, so your dog just lies down. No positioning, no handling.

Is there research on PEMF in dogs?

Yes. Four peer-reviewed studies are summarised in the research section above, each with a link so you can read it yourself: Journal of Neurotrauma, 2018 (Zidan, Olby et al.) — a randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 16 dogs after surgery for severe spinal disc extrusion. Veterinární Medicína, 2026 — a randomised pilot in 16 dogs with osteoarthritis, comparing PEMF with mavacoxib. BMC Veterinary Research, 2025 — a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 21 dogs with osteoarthritis. Veterinary Research Communications, 2025 — a randomized study in 20 dogs with hip osteoarthritis.

These are small studies, and they tested PEMF as a method using different devices and settings. They didn't test CANIS 1.

Has CANIS 1 itself been clinically tested?

No. The published research is on the PEMF method, not on our device. We'd rather tell you that straight than let you assume otherwise.

Is it FDA approved?

The FDA doesn't pre-approve or clear devices sold for animals the way it clears human medical devices. CANIS 1 isn't sold as a veterinary medical device and makes no treatment claims. It's a home-use mat for comfort, rest and routine.

Is CANIS 1 a treatment for my dog's recovery?

No. It's designed to support comfort, rest and a daily routine during confinement. Your vet's plan runs the recovery, and CANIS 1 sits alongside it.

Is it right for my dog?

What surgeries is it built for?

Any surgery that ends in confinement: TPLO, TTA, lateral suture and other cruciate repairs, spinal and disc surgery (IVDD), FHO, and fracture repairs. If your vet has said “confinement”, CANIS 1 is built for that window.

Is it OK with his TPLO plate and screws?

CANIS 1 produces a low-intensity, non-thermal field — there's no heating element. Your surgeon placed the implant and knows it best, so ask them before the first session.

Is it safe to use with a fresh incision?

It sits under him like any mat. There's no heating element, no vibration, and nothing needs to touch the incision. If your vet has rules about his rest setup, follow those first.

Can he use it with the cone on?

Yes. He just lies on the mat, so the cone doesn't get in the way.

Who shouldn't use it?

Check with your vet before use if your dog has a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, is pregnant, has a known tumour, has active bleeding, or has a history of seizures.

Is it safe for me, my kids and my other pets nearby?

The field is strongest right at the mat's surface and drops off quickly with distance. Anyone with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device shouldn't lie on the mat.

What if my dog won't lie on it?

Put it where he already rests, same spot every day, with his usual pad and a familiar blanket on top. It looks and feels like any mat he'd lie on, with nothing warm, moving or noisy under him. And if it doesn't work for your dog, that's what the 30-day trial is for.

Can I use it for my older dog, or after confinement ends?

Yes. It's a mat. When confinement ends, it stays as his bed, and you can keep the routine going.

Does it work for small dogs?

Yes, dogs of any size can lie on it. Pick the mat size that fits the space you're using (see Size & fit).

Can my cat use it?

CANIS 1 is designed and sold for dogs.

Should I check with my vet first?

Yes, always. CANIS 1 sits alongside your vet's plan, never instead of it.

Will my vet be familiar with PEMF?

PEMF is used in veterinary rehabilitation, so it isn't a new idea in veterinary medicine. Bring the specifications and the research links so your vet can see exactly what CANIS 1 is and decide.

Using it

Does he have to lie still or in one spot?

No. The coils run the full length of the mat, so he rests however he normally would.

Does he need to be on it the whole session?

No. If he shifts or gets up, that's fine. It's his mat, and he uses it the way he'd use any other.

What if he chews the cable?

Run the cable clear of his rest space so the controller sits out of reach. The cable isn't chew-proof. A cord protector helps, and keep an eye on him. Chewing damage isn't covered by the warranty.

What about accidents?

Accidents happen during confinement. The surface is PU leather, so it wipes clean with a damp cloth. For easier clean-up, put a washable pad on top, since the field passes through fabric. Never submerge the mat, and keep the controller dry.

Can I put his bed or a blanket on top?

Yes, keep it thin. The field passes through fabric, but the closer he is to the mat, the stronger the field.

How do I clean it?

Unplug the controller first. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and let it dry. Don't submerge it, and don't put it in the washing machine.

What does it plug into?

A standard US wall outlet. CANIS 1 runs on 110–220V AC.

Does it get warm?

There's no heating element and it isn't designed to warm up.

Can two dogs share one mat?

One dog at a time on the mat.

Size & fit

How much space does it need?

CANIS 1 is 60 × 200 cm (24 × 79 in) — a full-length mat, not a crate pad. Measure the floor of the space you're setting up (length × width) and make sure it lies completely flat. It doesn't have to be the only thing on the floor; it needs to be where he actually lies down.

Will it lie flat?

Yes, as long as the size matches the floor you're putting it on. Don't fold or bunch it, since the coils sit inside the mat.

Can I move it somewhere else later?

Yes. Unplug it and move it.

Price & payment

Is it a one-time price?

Yes. One payment. No subscription, no consumables, no refills, nothing to reorder.

Why does it cost more than a regular dog bed?

A dog bed is padding. CANIS 1 is a PEMF device — eight copper coils plus a timed controller — that happens to be shaped like a mat. Compared to the surgery bill or ongoing clinic visits, it's a fraction of the cost, paid once, and it stays as his bed afterwards.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Interest-free payment options are shown in the buy box and at checkout. Terms depend on your order and approval.

What currency are prices in?

US dollars.

Shipping

How long does delivery take?

Orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days and delivered 8–14 business days after that. Most orders arrive 2–3 weeks after ordering. You'll get tracking by email as soon as it ships.

My dog's surgery is coming up. Should I order now?

Yes. Order when the surgery is booked and it'll be set up before he comes home. If he's already home, it still covers most of the confinement window.

How much is shipping?

Free to anywhere in the US.

Do you ship outside the US?

US only for now.
